On December 9th, 2023 an EF-3 tornado tore through Brave Me Brave You founder, Kara Short's, hometown and neighborhood. Through this traumatic event, Brave Me Brave You has added disaster relief to its great cause.
Due to connections in the city of Clarksville, Brave Me Brave You was able to take food and clothing donations to disaster relief centers and was able to help rehome families from an apartment complex that was destroyed by the tornado.
Brave Me Brave You hopes to aid in disaster relief efforts across the country through potential partnerships with disaster relief organizations.
Individuals from all across the state of Tennessee mailed boxes full of supplies to Clarksville to be directly given to survivors.
Cars full of supplies were taken to distribution centers and YAIPak Outreach to help aid those in need.
Not only were supplies mailed, individuals also drove to Clarksville to drop off supplies so that those items could be donated.
In the end, hundreds of items and supplies had been donated from individuals all across Tennessee to help survivors who had lost everything in the tornado.
Along with all of the supplies that were donated, Brave Me Brave You was gifted $25,000 from a local church to help rehouse families that had been displaced after the tornado. This money helped place 20 families in new apartments before Christmas.
Rouandia Bowan and her two children were one of the families that was given a brand new apartment after her complex was destroyed.
Another donation of $250 came in and because of that, she and her children were able to have gifts for Christmas.
Latoya Outlaw and her son lived in the same apartment complex as the Bowan family. They also now have a new apartment to live in.
