Brave Me Brave you is an early preventative initiative designed to educate our youth on the skills required to be brave in situations that can cause harm through physical or emotional trauma.
Brave Me Brave You is for every child everywhere no matter who they are, where they come from, or what language they speak.
Brave Me Brave You is for every child everywhere no matter who they are, where they come from, or what language they speak.
During presentations, children learn about what it means to be brave, what being brave looks like, what situations they can be brave in, how bullying and unsafe touching can be harmful, what a personal safety bubble is, and who the safe and trustworthy adults are in their life.
Along with learning about the different aspects, the children each receive a Brave Me Brave You packet that includes a 24-count box of crayons, a handcrafted bracelet, two coloring sheets that recap part of the presentation, and a "My Safety Hand" worksheet where they can list the safe adults in their life.
The coloring sheets and worksheet were designed to add an interactive aspect to the presentation. The first coloring sheet says, "Brave Me Brave You, You Can Trust Me, And I Can Trust You", the second coloring sheet is of the Brave Me Brave You mascot, Judah the lion, and the third sheet is the "My Safety Hand" worksheet.
Along with the interactive aspect of the coloring sheets and worksheet, during the presentation, the children learn a chant that they do back and forth with their friends. The chant goes, "Brave Me, Brave You. You can trust me, and I can trust you". This allows them to feel they can trust the people around them, and it is one of the favorite parts of the presentation.
Brave Me Brave You also works with foster care children. We have partnerships with two national non-profit organizations: YAIPak Outreach and Bethany Christian Services. These partnerships allow the children who are coming from traumatic situations to receive packets that include the 24-count box of crayons, a handcrafted bracelet, two coloring sheets, and two letters that have been written for them explaining the coloring sheets and their significance.
At different pivotal ages, Brave Me Brave You founder, Kara Short, went through two very traumatic incidences. Through years of healing, Kara has decided to turn the pain she once felt, into purpose. Brave Me Brave You is what she likes to call "God's anointed plan" for her life.
The non-profit is built upon Genesis 50:20 which reads, "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."
Kara believes in the preventative education that Brave Me Brave You provides, as well as having resources available for when the need for preventative education has passed.
Her dream is for Brave Me Brave You to reach every child everywhere, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what language they speak. No child is more worthy than another to hear a message that might save their life, the life of another, or remove them from a traumatic situation.
